Research Summary:
Dr. Borod’s laboratory investigates brain mechanisms underlying the neuropsychological processing of emotion from a multidimensional perspective. Within this framework, specific research projects in our laboratory examine a) the impact of interhemispheric and intrahemispheric brain structures on emotional processing, b) hypotheses regarding hemispheric specialization for emotion, c) the componential nature of emotional processing, d) the effect of normal aging on emotional processing abilities, and e) recovery of emotional functioning following unilateral stroke. Emanating from this program of research, in 2000, Dr. Borod published an edited volume which presents a comprehensive overview of the neuropsychology of emotion, including treatment and rehabilitation interventions. Another area of research conducted in Dr. Borod’s laboratory is the study of cognitive processing in non-demented individuals with Parkinson’s disease, with a special focus on the impact of the deep brain stimulation on cognitive functioning.
