Research Summary:
My research has been primarily motivated by my desire to better understand mature language organization and language acquisition in normal children and the processes underlying aberrant language development in impaired populations. In most of my research I have employed event-related potentials (ERPs). ERPs provide a very powerful technique for studying the temporal and spatial patterns of cortical electrical activity during stimulus processing. My current work explores three related areas: 1) the development of selective auditory attention in normal school age children; 2) auditory selective attention in children with language impairments and in children with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder; and 3) the factors modulating auditory selective attention in adults.
