Research Summary:
My main areas of research are cognitive and motor impairment in normal aging, mild cognitive impairment (MCI), Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and associated dementias such as normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH). A particular focus has been in the early detection of Alzheimer’s disease among non-demented elderly. In this regard, I have been a long-time collaborator of a clinical research group at NYU School of Medicine’s Silberstein Aging and Dementia Research Center, a team that has been instrumental in characterizing MCI. MCI is a condition in between normal aging and mild dementia; individuals with MCI are heightened risk for future decline to AD, compared to cognitively normal elderly.
